Busy

I have not been blogging as much as I should. I have been real busy though. I am coaching lacrosse and really liking it. I am also part of this math program that the district got a grant for, which also takes up a lot of my time. I am really liking teaching though. I think that I picked the right profession, and that's what its all about right.

Last Minuet again

Once again I have waited to the last minuet to write on my blog. It was the E-Mail from Mrs. Q that reminded me. I have to start doing this write after the meeting so everything is fresh in my mind. I know that one of the things that I have checked out is the discovery streaming from last meeting. This is something that I expect to start using in my class very soon.

Once again I have waited to the last day to get this blog in. I did learn a few things at the meeting last time though. The biggest thing that I learned was that there are many different ways to teach something. I have been trying to mix it up and not always instruct in the same way. I still think that I could throw a little more variety in what I do. The main problem lies in the fact that I am a first year teacher and by the time I get everything together for a lesson it seems like I do not have enough time to throw in something new.

I know that it is a little late, but I guess it still is before the next meeting. Some enhancements that I might make to my lesson plans, are that I am going to try to group differently. My class is already in groups by how I arrange my desks. After this professional development meeting, I think that I am going to get the students to move from group to group, in some kind of expert group and main group kind of way. I also liked the chip idea where no one can talk a second time until everyone has talked at least once. Communicating objectives is definitely one of my weaker points. What I am going to do is put the objective up on my T.V. screen so that everyone knows what the objective is for the day. I am also going to reference it many times in class so that everyone knows what the objective is. I am also going to put up the Colorado State learning standards, so that the class knows what they are.

I have not been blogging anywhere close to as much as I should be. I do not mind blogging and I use my g-mail quite often, it just seems like the blog is always at the back of my mind as one of those things that I know I need to to but I never do. I am definitely going to try to blog more

What I am going to bring back to my class from teacher training.

I was really glad to have this training I learned a lot. First of all I learned how to make a blog, and I am not necessarily sure how I will use a blog in my class yet I would like to use one. I will also use the grouping where there are main groups and expert groups and each person from the expert group goes back and teaches something to their main group. Also, in one of the readings I learned that most students' learning problems have to do with them not learning enough information in previous classes. I will definitely keep this in mind when I start teaching.
